Dear President Bush,

I am a girl aged 14 that lives in England. Firstly I would like to commend you on the work you’re doing to stop these horrible terrorist attacks. I would also like to assure you I prey every day for the lives lost, for the families the friends & everyone who has been personally affected by the terrible tragedies that have happened in America.

I first found out about the accidents in an on-line diary I regularly visit, just before going on-line my step-father had called our friends in Boston to make sure they were ok. I guess I must have sounded very inconsiderate, as I had not yet heard of the attacks.

In the on-line diary I read the story of a girl who was worried. She was the same age as me & she lived in Washington. Her mother worked at the Pentagon & as usual had set out to work that morning but it was now 5pm, her mother should have returned home by now yet she hadn’t. The girl, crying was actually making a pledge that if anyone knew where her mother was they should tell her. The only thing she wanted in the world was for her mom to walk through the door & hug her as if nothing had happened.

I put myself in that girl’s shoes. What would I do in that situation? Would I remain calm? Who would I call? How would I react if I found my mom had died? I asked myself these questions & knew there was no answer. I wouldn’t be able to be as brave as this girl was being.

At these times of crisis we not only turn to God but also to our mothers, fathers aunts & uncles. What would we do if they were no longer there to turn to? How would we cope?

So Mr Bush although I live in England & know no-one who was killed or hurt in the attack I still prey with those who have lost loved ones, still prey for those who just need their lives to reform, still send my love to those whose lives have been totally destroyed by the attacks & prey for those who need this the most. The way I see it, if so many people out there do this, prey send their love, help & blessing to all those affected & show how much we really do care things like this will no longer happen. The terrorists will see how much people do care, see how easily they will be overthrown by those who do have a heart & do love other human beings & will give in to the stronger army, the ones who prey to God, believe there is hope & the ones who love each & every person on the planet.

The following is a poem I wrote for this girl to show her however far away we are, we really do care about those affected:

So Far Away & Yet So Near

So far away & yet so near,
We know the plains they flew overhead,
I feel for the people over there,
The ones lost, tragically dead.

Their families too,
I prey for them,
That their grief soon comes to an end,
That the terrorists who caused this war,
Are sent to a place with no friend.

I feel for the victims,
The ones who died,
The ones who witnessed it all,
That the evil spirits in the air,
Are taken away by the devil’s thrall.

I prey for the ones, who are forever bruised,
By the horrible events over there,
If I could just reach out & touch their hands,
Let them know I really do care.

For all you out there,
That just need a friend,
Because you have lost someone dear
Remember I’ll always be there for you,
So far away, yet so near.

Yours Faithfully,
Jennie
