I was at work when one of my coworkers got a call from his wife who worked in a tall government building in Boston. She told him what happened & that he needed to come get her as they were being evacuated. We had no TV so we went out on the web to CNNFN & started to follow what happened. As it unraveled we were horrified by the events of the day.

I tried calling my brother-in-law in New York as he often has to go into the WTC for work - fortunately he was not in New York that day. However, his best friend was & unfortunately did not make it. He left behind a wife & three children who were devastated.

As someone who flies out of Boston all the time (and particularly on AA11 to LA) there was an added level of fear - I hate flying anyway but I fly at least one week in 4 out of Boston. On September 20 I was scheduled to fly on AA11 to go to a meeting - many who were attending wanted to cancel the meeting but I felt very strongly that if you allow terrorists to change the way you behave & live your life (within reason of course) then they have won & accomplished what they were trying to. I decided to go anyway & I still have a picture I took at sunrise at Logan airport that day just before we left. At the same time my parents were flying over from New Zealand to visit on September 20 - this was only their second ever trip on a plane & I was amazed & impressed at their bravery in still coming.

During the weeks after September 11 I was incredibly touched & impressed as the stories of bravery & tragedy came out - the rescue workers, firemen & police were incredible as were the rescue dogs & the many citizens who banded together.

The WiredKids Director asked me if I would help with putting the E-mail To America letters together - I was honored to work on that team & the letters are amazing. Please go read some of the letters that people have written to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, Servous the dog & all the rescue workers, firemen & police. They are amazing & will touch you to your very core.
