We will be starting a program for family & kid-friendly sites, where they agree to adhere to several basic standards as to advertising & privacy, in particular. Sites which pass our scrutiny & sign the WiredKids Family of Web sites agreement will appear on a special links page & can wear our WiredKids Family of Web sites Icon. Who chooses the Safe Site Award Recipients? Our advisory team has lots of experience reviewing quality sites. They have run & designed sites which have won many awards themselves. We submitted certain sites which matched our basic criteria to our award advisory team of teachers, librarians, media personalities, people involved in the arts, lawyers, diplomats & parents, & sought their input. What are they judged on? We judge the Safe Sites based upon the amount of valuable content, consistency of site practices (knowing that the site is not likely to change types of content or safety practices, so that the site will no longer qualify as a safe site), & fun activites for families & children. In our review we have to be sure that we are comfortable with questions they ask children & what advice they give to children, too. |
