Kids from all over the world enjoy the Internet. They have their favorite sites too. In order to honor those sites, & help encourage more of those great sites, WiredKids gives the WiredKids Best of the Web Awards each year.

In the last few years, kids had many favorite sites. This year the list is smaller, but more children agree on the “best sites” than ever before.

The award categories include WiredKids Best Game Sites, Homework Sites, Search-Engines, Television-Related Sites, Book-Related Sites, Educational sites, Music Sites, Performers Sites, Shopping Sites and, of course, the best of all...the Best of the Web sites.

The children select the sites. They submit them

formally & informally. Formally through the web site& surveys WiredKids conducts around the world, & informally when our volunteers or Parry meet with them at school assemblies & in classrooms & community groups around the United States & many other countries as well.

But passing the kids’ test isn’t the end of this.

They have to pass the Wired Family test too. Parents, grandparents & teachers review the sites nominated by the children to see if they meet their standards for sites they think are appropriate & fun for children. Last, but not least, Parry Aftab, our leader & Kids Internet Privacy Lawyer, reviews the site to make sure they are in compliance with the law & care about the children’s safety & privacy.

Servous the Rescue Dog

By Parry Aftab

Once upon a time a puppy was born in Holland. This was a very special puppy, but he didn’t know it yet. Many people were waiting for him to be born -- people from far away ... from across the ocean ... in a country called the United States.

One of those people was a kind man who knew everything about this puppy. He even knew everything about the puppy’s parents & about his brothers & sisters, many of whom lived in different parts of the United States already.
