Acronyms

Given the speed of chatting online, certain acronym shortcuts have been invented for frequently used words & phrases. I’ve included a few below, & a more complete list is available at the WiredSafety Emoticon Identifier. If you don’t know these, you’ll miss most of what’s going on & let everyone know you’re a "newbie." Acronyms are also used frequently to cut down on the typing. These are a few of the most common:

LOL = Laughing Out Loud
OTFL = On The Floor Laughing
ROFLOL = Rolling On The Floor, Laughing Out Loud
BTW = By The Way
OTOH = On The Other Hand
PMJI = Pardon Me For Jumping In
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion
BRB = Be Right Back
J/K = Just Kidding
TTFN = Ta TA For Now
WB = Welcome Back

Now for a pop quiz! (Just kidding. :->) (That’s a smiley or an emoticon - you’ll learn about those in our Netiquette section, Ms. Parry's Guide to Correct Online Behavior". Turn the computer monitor sideways & you’ll see it’s a smiley face, which means I’m joking.)
