Children's Creative Works

Most of us have had the luxury of being able to post our children's original artwork, from their first crayon drawing, on our refrigerator door. As they advance from simple poetry in first grade to orchestral compositions in their senior year, we all think we have the next Pavarotti, Picasso, & Longfellow all rolled into one.

Our biases may be showing-they won't be spotted by the next talent scout-but even the simplest & most uninspired creation is still theirs. It belongs to them just as much as if they had registered it with the US Copyright Office in Washington, DC

Schools should get parents' & the child's consent before posting the creative works. (So should all sites that post their creative works.) Who knows? Maybe they will be discovered & support us in our old age!
